Chapter XV

Concerning the prophecy of Christ, it is that whereby He has1 revealed the will of God, whatsoever is needful for His servants to know and2 obey; and therefore He is called not only a prophet and doctor, and the3 apostle of our profession, and the4 angel of the covenant, but also the very5 wisdom of God, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, who forever continues revealing the same truth of the gospel to His people.

  1. Deuteronomy 18:15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen— John 1:18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known. John 12:49–50 For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.” John 15 John 17:8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.  ↩︎
  2. Matthew 23:10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ.  ↩︎
  3. Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,  ↩︎
  4. Malachi 3:1 “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.  ↩︎
  5. 1 Corinthians 1:24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Colossians 2:3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.  ↩︎
