That God¹ has decreed in Himself from everlasting touching all things, and the very least circumstances of everything, effectually to work and dispose them according to the counsel of his own will, to the praise and glory of His great name. And touching His chiefest creatures that God has in² Christ³ before the foundation of the world,⁴ according to the good pleasure of His will,⁵ ordained some men and angels, to eternal life to be⁶ accomplished through Jesus Christ, to the praise⁷ of the glory of His grace. And on the other hand has likewise⁸ before of old according⁹ to His just purpose¹⁰ ordained others both angels and men, to eternal condemnation, to be¹¹ accomplished through their own corruption to the praise of His justice.¹²
